After the creation of the Polish Army in France (Blue Army) on 4.06.1917. Polish Army in France (Blue Army), a military training camp intended for the 1st Polish artillery regiment was located in Le Mans (in the Sarthe department). There were also military hospitals in this location.

In the Western Cemetery, in the military section, there is a small section No. 41, where 9 Polish soldiers who died between IX 1918 and VI 1920 and 6 Russian soldiers are buried. Entering the cemetery from Rue de l'Abord au Chanvre, turn right and reach the corner of the cemetery. Simple crosses, typical of soldiers' graves, have been placed on the graves with plaques bearing the names and dates of death. The Polish names are significantly distorted, and there are also errors in the dates of death given. In the case of one of the soldiers - Ignacy Grygier - his assumed name and surname appear on the plaque: Jan Górski. At present, the Department for Sites of National Remembrance Abroad of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage is working to establish the correct details of the soldiers and the personalities of the soldier resting here as an unknown soldier (the plaque on his grave says: "He rests Tudaj").
