Graves of soldiers from the Polish-Bolshevik war

In August 1920, soldiers of the army of the Ukrainian People's Republic, commanded by General Omelianowycz-Pawlenko, together with soldiers of the 8th Infantry Division of the Polish Army, commanded by General Franciszek Latinik, defended the Dniester River crossing against the Soviets. On 14.09.1920, Polish soldiers crossed the bridge at Halich and shattered the Bolshevik defence. In the following days, the offensive continued and met fierce enemy resistance, resulting in heavy losses. Some of the fallen Polish soldiers were buried on Castle Hill in Halicz, near one of the town's cemeteries.

After World War II, the communists destroyed this cemetery. It was only found in 2019 thanks to the president of the association "Traditional Branch of the C. and K. Regiment of Fortress Artillery No. 2 of Baron Edward von Beschi - Twierdza Kraków" Przemysław Jaskółowski from Warsaw. Thanks to his efforts, a temporary wooden cross and an information board in Polish and Ukrainian were erected in the quarters: "War cemetery / of soldiers of the Polish Army / killed in battles against the Bolsheviks / in 1920. // In 1920, soldiers of the Polish and Ukrainian Army / heroically resisted the Bolshevik invaders // Halicz 2019 / Traditional Detachment C. and K. Regiment of Fortress Artillery No. 2 / Baron Edward von Beschi - Krakow Fortress".
