Biography:

Gustaw Gwozdecki (1880-1935) - Polish painter, printmaker and sculptor; active in Poland, Germany, France and the United States. He studied under Stanisław Grocholski in Munich, at the Anton Ažbe School of Painting and Drawing, and at the private school of Konrad Krzyżanowski. In 1902 he left for Paris to study sculpture at the School of Fine Arts there, but after only a few months financial problems forced him to return. He stayed in France intermittently from 1903 onwards. From 1916 he travelled regularly to the United States. His art was inspired by Young Poland painting, Fauvism and Expressionism. In the interwar period, a turn towards classicism can be discerned in his work.
