Biography:

Hanna Zawa-Cywińska (born 1939), Polish painter representing the geometric abstraction trend. In 1965 she graduated in journalism from the University of Warsaw. Two years later she left for the United States, where she studied advertising at the Fashion Institute of Technology and graphic design at the State University of New York at Purchase. In the 1980s, she simultaneously belonged to the circle of artists associated with Bożena Kowalska and Gerard Blum-Kwiatkowski. Between 1994 and 2004, she lived in Switzerland, and in 2004 she moved to Warsaw, where she still lives today. Since 1983, she has participated in solo and collective exhibitions all over the world. In her work she combines geometric abstraction with symbolic motifs, paying great attention to the texture, materials and colours of her works.
