Biography:

Helena Gałkowska (1911-1922), born in Morawica, artist, creator of artistic and industrial textiles. Between 1934 and 1937 she studied at the Pedagogical Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under the tutelage of Mieczysław Kotarbiński and Wojciech Jastrzębowski. She specialised mainly in creating tapestries, although she also made kilims. She produced her works both individually and together with her husband, Stefan Gałkowski. In the period 1946-1974, she was associated with the Cooperative "Wanda" in Krakow, which she co-organised. Initially, she was the deputy artistic manager, and from 1960 she was the chief designer. Together with her husband, Stefan, they are considered key figures of the first generation of the Polish school of artistic textiles.
