Biography:

Henri Joseph Séverin Babinski (1855-1931), born in Paris, son of Aleksander Babinski, mining engineer and author of cookery books of Polish origin. A graduate of the Polish School at Batignolles and the Paris School of Mines, he began his career by conducting geological surveys in France and northern Italy. Commissioned by the French government, he was sent to Guyana, where he investigated gold deposits. He also continued his research activities in other South American countries. In 1893, he discovered significant coal deposits in the Chilean Land of Fire, and later carried out similar explorations in Brazil. Later in life, he became interested in the culinary arts, publishing a popular cookbook in France under the pseudonym Ali-Bab.
