Biography:

Henryk Berlewi (1894-1967) was a Polish-Jewish printmaker, painter, art theorist and critic active in Poland, France and Belgium. He belonged to art groups in Poland - Blok and Hałastra, as well as in France - Syndicat de la Presse Artistique Française and Association Internationale des Critiques d'Art (AICA). He studied successively at: the Warsaw School of Fine Arts, the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts, the Paris École des Beaux-Arts and the École des Arts Décoratifs, and finally at the Warsaw Drawing School. From 1928 he lived permanently in Paris. In his art over the decades, the influences of Expressionism, Constructivism and the trend of the return to order, among others, are evident.
