Biography:

Henryk Dmochowski (1810-1863), born in Zabłocie, son of Michał Dmochowski, sculptor and insurgent, war chief of the Dzialynsk district in the January Uprising. He studied natural science at Vilnius University, and took private lessons in sculpture during his studies. He took part in the November Uprising and left for Paris after its fall. In 1834 he was sentenced to imprisonment in Kufstein Prison, from which he was released in 1841. On his release from prison he went to Paris, where he continued to study sculpture and later began giving lessons himself. In 1852, he emigrated to the United States, where he took the name Henry D. Sanders. There he continued his work as a sculptor, opened a school of sculpture and made numerous busts of politicians located in the Congress building. In 1861, he moved to Vilna, where he continued to work in his profession. He died on 26 May 1863 during the fighting of the January Uprising.
