Hipolit Jundziłł (1846-1898), born in the Lida district of Vilnius province, graduated in medicine from the University of Dorpat, trained in the medical profession in Berlin under the direction of surgeon Professor Bardeleben, doctor, head and chief physician of the Savicz Hospital, member of the Vilnius Medical Society, head of the St. James Hospital, was the first to perform laparotomy in Vilnius, secretary and vice-president of the Vilnius Medical Society (1874-1878).
