Biography:

Ignacy Karol Korwin-Milewski (1846-1926), born in Gieranony Murowane, son of Oskar Korwin-Milewski and Weronika Łaniewska-Wołk, landowner, count. He graduated from the Lycée impérial Bonaparte secondary school in Paris. He then went on to study law at the University of Dorpat. After completing these, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He collected art, which he gathered in a palace located on the island of Saint Catherine in the Adriatic Sea, which Milewski purchased in 1899. The residence was built to a design by Teodor Talowski, one of the most important Polish architects of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Milewski's collection included works by Maksymilian Gierymski, Józef Chełmoński, Leon Wyczółkowski, Jan Matejko and Jacek Malczewski, among others. He died in 1926 and was buried in the cemetery in Rovinj.
