POLONIKA Institute was established on 18 December 2017 as a specialised state cultural institution that pursues its objectives through scientific research, conservation, information, education and popularisation projects focused on three strategic programmes: RESEARCH, PROTECTION and POPULARISATION of Polish cultural heritage abroad.

The mission of POLONIKA Institute is:

• To preserve for future generations the material traces of Polish cultural heritage remaining abroad, understood as the heritage of the former eastern lands of the multinational and multicultural Republic of Poland and of migration, emigration and exile, forming an integral part of the world's cultural heritage.
• Building awareness, both at home and abroad, of the role and significance of Poland's cultural heritage remaining outside the country, understood as an element shaping national identity, building a sense of pride and a bond with the motherland.
• Shaping a positive image of Poland and its cultural heritage, especially in neighbouring countries, successors of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
