Irene Kowaliska

Irene Kowaliska (1905-1991), painter, ceramicist and designer of Polish origin. In the 1930s she was employed by a German ceramics company in the Italian town of Vietri sul Mare. There she created her own style, naif vietrese. In the 1940s she moved to Rome, where she began to create paintings on fabric. Echoes of her work can still be seen today and the ceramic style she developed is still alive, especially in the Salerno region.
