Jakub Burko (1933-2008), born in Warsaw, son of Moshe and Eugenia Lipszowicz, dentist (1897-1967), engineer, poet, translator. In 1949, he emigrated to France, where he completed his engineering studies. After his retirement, he devoted himself to literary and translation activities. He translated the works of eminent poets such as Julian Tuvim, Zbigniew Herbert, Anna Akhmatova, Mikhail Lermontov and Alexander Pushkin.

In 2007, he prepared for publication a volume of his own poems, which was favourably received by critics, but not published until posthumously - 'Certidoutes' (Paris, 2009).

Jacques Burko left his wife, Berthe Burko-Falcman (born 15 February 1935, Paris), a writer and daughter of Aron Falcman, a Polish émigré murdered in Auschwitz in 1942. The legacy of Burko and his wife is held in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France under the reference NAF 28777 Fonds Jacques Burko et Berthe Burko-Falcman.
