Jan Chełmiński (1851-1925), born in Brzustów, son of Maksymilian Chełmiński and Kazimiera Glinka-Janczewska, coat of arms Trzaska. He studied drawing under Juliusz Kossak in Warsaw. In 1873, he left to continue his studies in Munich. In 1888, he moved to London, and in 1897 he founded the Society for the Protection of Polish Art in Paris. He lived in St Petersburg from 1899 and emigrated to New York in 1915. He painted genre, battle and military scenes.
