Biography:

Jan Krzysztof Damel (1780-1840), born in Mitava, painter and caricaturist. He studied painting at the Imperial University of Vilnius under Franciszek Smuglewicz and Jan Rustem. He spent time in exile in Siberia in Tomsk, Tobolsk and Eniseysk. He painted pictures of Polish history, Napoleonic themes, portraits, churches and landscapes.
