Jan Szymon Lobaczyński was born around 1665 in Liga. He left the Polish lands probably due to religious persecution, as he belonged to the Protestant church and settled with his wife Sophia Willumsdatter in the city of Helsingør in Denmark where he took up painting. He died in 1707 at the age of 42.
