Biography:

Jan Rustem (1762-1835), born in Istanbul, draughtsman, painter and professor. He studied painting at the Royal Painter's House in Warsaw under Jan Piotr Norblin, and later under Marcello Bacciarelli. In 1798, he began working as an assistant to Franciszek Smuglewicz in the Department of Painting at Vilnius University. In 1811 he became an associate professor of drawing, and from 1819 he taught painting. He obtained the title of full professor in 1821.
