Biography:

Janusz Korczak, pseudonym of Henryk Goldszmit (1878/1879-1942), born in Warsaw, son of Józef Goldszmit and Cecylia Gębicka, doctor, educator, writer, publicist and social activist.

He dedicated his life to children, fighting for their rights and respect. Korczak was a pioneer in education, creating an innovative system of upbringing based on respect, independence and active participation of children in decision-making. As a doctor, he worked at the Warsaw Children's Hospital and ran the Orphans' Home, where he cared for children, treating them as full partners.

Korczak was also the author of books for children, including "King Matt the First" and "Kajtuś czarodziej". In 1926, he founded 'Mały Przegląd', the first magazine edited by children. During World War II, despite the German occupation, he remained in Warsaw, taking care of orphans. After the Warsaw Ghetto was liquidated and the children from his orphanage were deported to Treblinka, Korczak decided to stay with the children and died with them.
