Jolanta Owidzka (1927-2020), born in Radom, artist, creator of artistic textiles and designer of decorative fabrics. She began her artistic studies at the State Higher School of Visual Arts in Cracow, where she studied at the Faculty of Weaving under Prof. Stefan Gałkowski and at the Faculty of Painting under Prof. Tadeusz Kantor. She then continued her education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, studying under Prof. Eleonora Plutyńska and Prof. Mieczysław Szymański at the Faculty of Textile. At the same time, she attended painting classes with Prof. Marek Włodarski. She graduated in 1952. From 1949, she cooperated with the Office for the Supervision of Production Aesthetics (later the Institute of Industrial Design), where she was involved in textile design and research activities. Her designs and reflections on the meaning and role of textiles in residential interiors were highly regarded and received numerous awards. In 1960, the Zachęta -National Gallery of Art hosted her individual exhibition, considered a landmark moment in the history of Polish artistic textiles and the beginning of the phenomenon of the so-called Polish School of Artistic Textiles. Owidzka participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, gaining international recognition as an innovative fibre artist. Her works, highly valued by collectors, are in collections all over the world and form an important part of the heritage of Polish modern art.
