Biography:

Józef Buchbinder (1839–1909), a Polish painter and printmaker of Jewish origin. Born in Radzyń Podlaski, as a child he helped his father with his painting work and with the restoration of paintings. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, in Dresden and in Munich. His stay in Rome had the greatest influence on him; there he studied at the Academy of Saint Luke (1863–1868) and met Leopold Nowotny, a representative of the Nazarenes. In 1870, he returned to Warsaw, where he became one of the leading creators of religious paintings,
