Biography:

Józef Babinski (1857-1932) - French physician of Polish origin, neurologist, pioneer of neurosurgery; between 1885 and 1893, he was Jean-Martin Charcot's assistant at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital; from the 1890s onwards, he was the odrynator of several French hospitals. He was the discoverer of the so-called Babinski sign, indicating damage to the pyramidal tract, which controls free movements and posture. He was the first to describe the phenomenon of anasnognosia (the inability of a disease to be recognised by the patient). Author of numerous studies on the physiology of the nervous system and neuropathology. He was nominated four times for the Nobel Prize (1914, 1924, 1928, 1932) for his discoveries in the fields of physiology and medicine.
