Biography:

Józef Oleszkiewicz (1777-1830), born in Szydłów, painter. Between 1798 and 1799 he studied under Franciszek Smuglewicz and Jan Rustem at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Vilnius Main School. Then, between 1803 and 1806, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, among others under Jacques Louis David. He created in Vilnius and Volhynia. In 1810, he moved to St Petersburg, where he painted, among other things, portraits of the Tsar's family.
