Biography:

Józef Unierzyski (1863-1948), born in Milewo, painter. He began his artistic education at the Warsaw Drawing School of Wojciech Gerson and Aleksander Kamiński. Thanks to a scholarship from the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts, awarded in 1883, he continued his education in Munich and in Italy, attending the "Scuola libera" at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. Between 1884 and 1889, he studied at the School of Fine Arts in Kraków under, among others, Jan Matejko, whose son-in-law he later became. From 1891 he was professor of drawing at the same school.
