Barczewsky Chapel

The Barchevskyi Chapel in Lviv is a three-storey mausoleum and the largest structure in Lychakiv Cemetery - one of the oldest non-urban necropolises in Europe.

Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv is a special place. The picturesque necropolis hides extraordinary monuments - important testimonies to the common history of Ukraine and Poland. Thanks to the cooperation of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Board for the Protection of the Historic Environment of the Lviv City Council, the management of the Museum-Reserve "Lychakiv Cemetery" and the POLONIKA Institute, it has been possible to carry out conservation work on particularly valuable works of sepulchral art here for 15 years.

Undertaken in 2021 through the efforts of the POLONICA Institute, the conservation work on the Barczewski Chapel included the object together with its immediate surroundings. We invite you to watch a video showing how many architectural elements needed to be rebuilt. The largest part of the building to be restored was the upper levels of the dome destroyed during World War II, as well as the stained glass windows, metalwork and the altar.
