Lodynski Chapel in 3D scanning

The war in Ukraine, which has been going on for two years, has made it difficult to protect Polish cultural heritage. That is why the Polonika Institute has taken the necessary measures, including intensifying the architectural inventory of the most important monuments. Among them is the Łodyński Chapel in Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv, which was subjected to 3D scanning.

The Łodyński Chapel was built in 1883 in the Renaissance-Gothic style. Jan Schulz, a well-known builder of the time, was responsible for its construction. He was also the author of, among other things, the Baczewskis' chapel in the Lychakivsky cemetery and the tomb of Baron Heydl, as well as the author of many interesting buildings in Lviv.

The scanning of the chapel comprehensively describes the complexity of its body (including the roof trusses). Such documentation includes the architectural detail and decoration of the building. The resulting point cloud makes it possible to produce a complete architectural inventory that maps every space, every element of the structure, detail, permanent decoration, etc.

A detailed examination of the building is both an invaluable source of knowledge regarding the technology of construction, the history of the monument, and documentation that would allow a faithful restoration in the event of war damage.
