Biography:

Kazimierz Deyna (1947-1989), born in Starogard Gdański, son of Franciszek and Jadwiga née Sprengel, football player and lieutenant in the People's Army of Poland.

One of the most outstanding Polish footballers, captain of the Polish national team in 1973-1978. A player of Legia Warsaw, where he played in 1966-1978, winning two Polish championships. From Legia Warsaw he moved to Manchester City and then to the San Diego Sockers in the United States. With the national team he won a gold medal at the 1972 Munich Olympics and a bronze medal at the 1974 World Championships. He died tragically in a car accident in 1989. His ashes were brought to Poland and buried at the Powązki Military Cemetery in 2012.
