Krzysztof Domański - painter, draughtsman and educator

He graduated from the Faculty of Pedagogy (care pedagogy with visual education) at the Higher School of Pedagogy in Częstochowa (now the Jan Długosz University). After graduation, he began working with the Provincial Art Exhibition Office (BWA) in Częstochowa. He worked as a painting instructor with a group of non-professional artists. In 1982, he began cooperating with the Pauline Order at Jasna Góra, taking part in the Jasna Góra Painting Plein-Air every year. In 1985, by a decision of the Minister of Culture and Art, he was awarded the title of 'visual artist'. In 1985-1986 he worked in the team conserving the altar of Our Lady of Częstochowa. In 1985, he and his team prepared an exhibition entitled 'Jasnogórska Bogurodzica (The Jasna Góra Mother of God) in copies from the 16th to the 20th century'. In 1985 Krzysztof Domański co-founded the ephemeral group of artists "CZ-ART", which organised a series of exhibitions: "Zwykli Ludzie", "I Każdy Sam" in Katowice and Częstochowa.

The main techniques in Domański's work have become - based on Renaissance techniques - drawing and painting complementing drawing itself. Since 1986, the artist has lived and worked in Toronto. He has participated in many solo and group exhibitions.

According to Krzysztof Domański, his paintings and drawings are 'landscape studies', which inspire his further search for colour, form and emotion. The artist has been described as a 'visual poet' by Maria Graham, art historian and critic at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO). ORION Television in Częstochowa produced a report on the exhibition: "By Walking". OMNI TV in Toronto produced a television programme dedicated to the artist. Krzysztof Domański is a member of the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA), Propeller Centre for Visual Arts in Toronto and an honorary member of the International Society of Acrylic Painters, Santa Cruz, USA. His works can be found in private collections in Canada, USA, Germany, Italy, Japan and Poland, as well as in the ecclesiastical art collection of the Order of Pauline Fathers at Jasna Gora in Częstochowa.

In 2019. Krzysztof Domański had a solo exhibition, 'Spacerkiem', at the Gaude Mater Gallery in Częstochowa.

Work in catalogue
Krzysztof Domański, 'Afternoon in the gazebo', acrylic on plexiglass, 34 x 26 cm. This work from the series 'Exercises in Landscape' is a colourful abstraction in bright colours. Colourful patches of green, pink, blue tightly fill the space of the painting giving it a light and joyful mood. An abstract impression, a play of forms having something of a musical composition.
