The quarters of Polish policemen killed in the interwar period, commemorated by a monument

In the cemetery on Chapayeva Street is the grave of 7 police officers killed on 4.08.1924 during an attack by an approximately 100-strong Soviet diversionary band. The attackers attacked the starost's office, the district police headquarters, the city police station, the post office, the treasury office, the city jail and a number of private flats. In the skirmish, one district office official and seven police officers were killed. The attack lasted more than an hour and was eventually repulsed. In the pursuit of the saboteurs, 11 people were captured and the loot taken. The day after the attack, General Rydz-Śmigły inspected the area. On the same day, a funeral was held for the victims of the attack, and the town erected a monument to them at its own expense. The plot is solidly fenced, so that the area has not been built over, although after 1945 the graves were destroyed and the monument damaged. The inscription board on the monument and the finial of the monument are currently missing.
