The quarters of Polish soldiers killed in the Polish-Bolshevik war

As a result of battles fought during the Polish-Bolshevik war, the Polish Army occupied Nowe Święciany on 15.05.1919. Polish soldiers killed in these battles were buried at the local cemetery. Later, further war burials were made here, burying those killed in 1920. In 1932, as a part of the war cemeteries' commemoration, the remains of some soldiers previously buried in Swieciany were transferred to the local war cemetery. In total, about 500 soldiers killed in 1919-1920 were laid to rest here. The quarters were arranged in the interwar period by the Ministry of Public Works. After the Second World War, it was devastated, and burials of New Swieciany residents were made on the soldiers' graves. The quarters are not fenced, and it is currently not possible to exhume the civilian burials and restore the destroyed war graves. In 2002-2003, the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Remembrance carried out the renovation of the quarters and set up a central commemoration in the form of a massive cross with two inscription plaques. The inscriptions proclaim: "Honour to the Fallen Soldiers 1919 -1921" / "GARBEŽU VUSIEMS KARIAMS 1919-1921" [on the vertical plaque] and "Here rest the Soldiers of the Polish Army, who in the years 1919-1921 fought and fought in the vicinity of the small towns of Swieciany, honour their memory by the Government of the Republic of Poland". / "ČIA ILSISILENKIJOS KARIUOMENES KARIAI, 1919-1921 METAISKOVOJĘ IR ŽUVĘ ŠVENČIONELIU APLINKESEGARBE JU ATMINIMUILENKIJOS RESPUBLIKOS VYRIAUSYBE" [on horizontal plaque].
