In Nicosia, at the Centre for Visual Arts and Art Research, one of the showcases features a pair of dolls dressed in costumes reminiscent of traditional highland clothing from the border region between Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

The first doll - a female one - has a head made of paper pulp, a painted face and hair. Her costume is richly decorated: a white blouse with lace trim, a skirt made of thick material, petticoats and pantaloons. The whole outfit is completed with tied leather boots, a decorative head scarf and a string of red beads.

The second doll depicts a man in the costume of a highlander. He is dressed in a white shirt with a colourful kerchief under his neck, embroidered trousers tied with a wide leather belt and leather shoes tied with thongs. On his head is a distinctive wide-brimmed hat.
