Biography:

Leon Sperling (1900-1941), Krakow-born footballer.

He began his adventure with football in Jutrzenko Kraków, and in 1920 joined Cracovia, where he played until 1934. He appeared in 381 matches, including 131 league games, winning the Polish championship three times (1921, 1930, 1932).

He made his debut for the Polish national team on 18 December 1921 in the national team's historic first match against Hungary. Between 1921 and 1930 he played sixteen official matches, scoring two goals, and an additional five matches against amateur teams. In 1924 he took part in the Olympic Games in Paris.

He was a graduate of a commercial high school and worked as a cashier at the Bank of Malopolska. After the outbreak of the Second World War he found himself in Lviv, where he led the football team. After the Germans occupied the city, he was imprisoned in the Lviv ghetto. In December 1941 he was murdered by a German officer.
