Biography:

Leonard Pękalski (1896-1944), born in Grójec, painter and illustrator. From 1913, he studied at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts, then in Italy and France. He fought in the Polish-Bolshevik war. He worked in Toruń in the factory "Sztuka", later he was the assistant of Felicjan Kowarski at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków and co-founder of the group Jednoróg. Between 1927 and 1930, he created polychromes on the Wawel Castle. From 1932 he was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, from 1934 an associate professor, and president of the Pryzmat group. During the occupation, he was active in the Home Army and conducted secret teaching. He died in Sadyba during the Warsaw Uprising, and is buried in the Czerniakowski Cemetery.
