Leopold Wajgiel (1842-1905), historian of Kolomyia, professor at the local grammar school. Publicist, animator of social and cultural life of the town. On his initiative, an obelisk was erected to commemorate the homage paid by Stefan the Great to Casimir Jagiellonian, and a monument to the poet Franiszek Karpiński. Among other things, he wrote "A view on the sculpture of Czarnohora", "On Burkut and the lakes of Czarnohora", "On fishing" and the monograph "Rys miasta Kolomyi" (written between 1872 and 1877), which is still the basic publication on the history of the town.
