Biography:

Ludwik Gintel (1899-1973), born in Kraków, son of Gutman and Chana Reizel Sperber, footballer, football activist and architect.

He spent his entire senior career (1916-1930) with Cracovia, playing 328 matches for the club. He made twelve appearances for the Polish national team. In 1928, he became the top scorer in the Polish league, scoring 28 goals. He took part in the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris.

He was also the author of the first suicide goal in the history of the Polish national team, scored in the match against Hungary in May 1922, which was also the first official match of the national team played in Poland (0:3).

After the end of his career, he worked as an architect and builder, designing tenement houses in Krakow, among other places. After the outbreak of World War II, he made his way abroad, arriving in Palestine in 1943. He died by suicide and was buried in Holon Cemetery near Tel Aviv.
