Ludwik Lachowicz (1811-1880), born in Vilnius, son of Ludwik - captain in the Polish army, graduate of Vilnius University and the Medical and Surgical Academy in Vilnius, military doctor, participant in the November Uprising, chief physician of the Savich Hospital, operator of the Medical Board in Vilnius, consultant member of the Supreme Medical Council of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in St. Petersburg, built an operating table of his own idea, which was put into use, he was the first in Lithuania to use ether as an anaesthetic.
