Biography:

Ludwik Tyrowicz (1861-1930), Polish sculptor, mainly creating tomb sculpture. He was active in the Lviv area. He studied at studios in Lviv, Vienna and Przemyśl. He participated as a stucco artist in works at the Vienna Opera House, the Parliament in Budapest and at the royal palace in Kalemegdan. In 1890, together with Jakub Balłaban, he opened his own studio in Lviv. He created many tombstones in the Lychakiv Cemetery, and also realised several projects in the Central Cemetery in Sanok. Over time, he took on mainly managerial responsibilities, limiting his work as a sculptor. He was the father of Prof. Marian, Ludwik (graphic designer) and Tadeusz Tyrowicz, who took over the sculpture workshop.
