Marian Lalewicz (1876-1944) is one of the most creative architects of his time.

He divided his life and career between Russia, where he spent 23 years of his youth, and Poland, where he lived for 26 years until his tragic death during the Warsaw Uprising in a mass execution.

Lalewicz began his professional activities at the beginning of the 20th century. (1908 was the year of his first project) and it continued through the inter-war period until 1944. The designs developed by M. Lalewicz were characterised above all by functionality, but also by modernist simplicity. He was a professional with a charismatic belief that architecture and urban design have an obvious impact not only on people's lives, but are also part of culture in the broadest sense, including the culture of public life. Lalewicz was extremely hard-working, sensitive and creative. He was a successful man who enjoyed the recognition of the architectural community and the public and private institutions that entrusted him with projects.

In the publication "Marian Lalewicz. St. Petersburg-Warsaw architect', the author describes the Russian and Polish stages of Lalewicz's life and creative activity. She presents his architectural projects in detail and analyses his creative choices. A biographical story is also part of the publication, which brings the protagonist to life and intrigues with its complexity.

In the book, Prof. Małgorzata Omilanowska-Kiljańczyk also presents Lalewicz's projects that have survived to this day. She also discusses his public and teaching activities.

The publication was published as part of the 'Studies and Materials' academic series of the Polonics Institute.
