Biography:

Marcin Bielski (c. 1495–1575), born in Biała, chronicler, Renaissance writer, satirical poet and translator. He took part in battles against the Tatars and Wallachians as a soldier in the regular army, before devoting himself to literary pursuits.

He is best known as the author of *The Chronicle of the Whole World*, one of the most important historiographical works of the Polish Renaissance. He also wrote satires, moralities and translations. He lived in Kraków for many years, before settling in his hometown of Biała, from which he took the surname Bielski.
