On the avenue de la Chapelle, in the 55th quadrant of the Père-Lachaise cemetery in Paris, is the stone mausoleum of Stanisław Delfin Komar, coat-of-arms Korczak (1776-1832), a major in the Russian army, marshal of the Podolia province, owner of a landed estate and a classicist palace in Kuryłowce Murowane. The sepulchral chapel programme fits into the wider context of the methods of appropriation of antiquity in the 19th century.

The cosmopolitan, classicist mausoleum on a rectangular plan with a pediment decorated with acroterions refers to the architecture of Roman temples. The programme of the sepulchral chapel resonated with the 19th-century users of the cemetery, especially Polish emigrants, who were often 'good' citizens of the country, forced to leave due to the political situation. References to antiquity and sacred architecture were intended to provide the audience with a discursive framework that would show the glory of the former social order. Antiquity served to reinforce the identity of the emigrants, who were forced to radically reconstruct their former image-making strategies.
