Biography:

Michał Płoński (1778-1812), Warsaw-born draughtsman, printmaker and painter. He took drawing lessons in the atelier of Jan Piotr Norblin. At the age of 18, he went to Italy, where he became acquainted with European painting. He studied the art of engraving in Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Paris, where he worked in the Imperial Engraving Cabinet. In the last years of his life he suffered from mental illness. He returned to Warsaw, where he died in a hospital for the insane.
