Biography:

Mieczysław Jurgielewicz (1900-1983), born in Warsaw, son of Aleksander and Eugenia née Nowak, painter and graphic artist. He studied in Vilnius and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, and was also educated in Paris, Italy, Belgium and England. He created woodcuts, printmaking, stained glass and easel paintings, and his works were exhibited at home and abroad. In 1937, he won a silver medal at the World Exhibition in Paris. During the occupation, he headed the Graphic Desk of the Information and Propaganda Bureau of the Home Army Headquarters and was co-author of the poster "To arms, in the ranks of the Home Army". After the war, he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and was active in art associations. Husband of the writer Irena Jurgielewiczowa.
