The place where the January Uprising fighters fought and their graves

At the end of August 1863, near Stumbryszki, a Russian detachment commanded by Capt. Laptiev attacked a partisan detachment commanded by Antoni Mackiewicz and E. Lutkiewicz. Eight insurgents were killed, including one officer. The insurgents were buried on the right bank of the Varupys River.

In 1998, at the confluence of the Pyvesa and Varupys rivers, the local community erected a boulder topped with a metal cross in memory of the insurgents.

Today, the area around the boulder and especially behind the boulder is overgrown and partly waterlogged.
