On 8.05.1863, the day after the battle of Medejki, a battle took place near the hamlet of Hudyszki, located in a forest glade, between a large group of insurgents led by Zygmunt Sierakowski and a column of tsarist troops led by General Ganecki. During the battle, which lasted several hours, Sierakowski was seriously wounded (taken by the Russians to Vilnius and later executed there). The insurgents were forced to retreat southwards towards the Sznurkiszki manor, losing many dead and wounded. Among those killed in the battle were commanders Antoniewicz and Żarski. The fallen were buried in a mass grave, which is now topped by a massive concrete cross. The inscription in Lithuanian reads: "Garbe karžygiams kritusiems sukilimo kovose 1863.V.5-7 del Lietuvos laisves" ("To the memory of the heroes who fell in the uprising in the struggle for the freedom of Lithuania on 5-7 May 1863"). At a distance of about 550 m from this grave, at the place where the battle took place, on the initiative of members of the Travellers' Club of Panevėžys, a memorial was erected on 14.09.1993 - on a concrete pedestal a two-tier chapel pillar was placed, topped with a hipped roof and a metal forged cross. Beneath the wooden canopy are four wooden statues of Christ the Sorrowful, St. Isidore, St. John Immaculate and the Blessed Virgin Mary, and below is a statue of Christ Crucified.
