Holosko Wielkie and Maly were suburban villages located 3 and 4 kilometres north of Lviv; they are now within the city limits.

19-20.09.1939 r. The 11th Carpathian Infantry Division fought battles against the Germans here. The fallen soldiers were buried in various places; several hundred of them were buried in a mass grave in the Holosko cemetery.

In 1989. The Council for the Protection of Remembrance of Struggle and Martyrdom erected a monument to the fallen soldiers on the mass grave. Its unveiling took place on 1.09.1989. The commemoration was made by the company "Energopol". This was the first grave of Polish soldiers from September 1939 in the former Borderlands of the Second Republic to be commemorated by the OPWiM Council. Later on, the inscription on the monument was changed and now reads "To the Polish Army soldiers killed in defence of the Fatherland 1939". Below the main plaque are two individual inscription plaques, dedicated to Major Bernard Korabiowski and Antoni Kidnarczyk.
