Graves of Polish refugees from the USSR at Kinondoni cemetery

The Kinondoni cemetery - in the Catholic, Greek Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran, Jewish and communal sectors - contains 19 graves of Poles, most of whom left the USSR in 1942 with General Anders' Army. 7 of the graves date from 1954-1982.

The Polish graves in this cemetery have undergone renovation work on several occasions. In 1996, the work was subsidised by the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Sites, in 2005 the graves were renovated through the efforts of the Polish Embassy in Dar-es-Salaam. The most recent revitalisation of the 12 gravestones was carried out in 2019 with funds from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, which provides ongoing care for the cemeteries of Polish refugees in Tanzania.
