Tombstone of Emilia Plater

Emilia Plater, heroine of the November Uprising, died in the village of Kopciowo in 1831. Initially, she was buried in secret in the local cemetery. Several years later, a tombstone with her real name was erected. The present gravestone is made of dark granite and surrounded by a metal fence. It was erected in 1912. Marked with a cross on a two-stepped plinth and a two-stepped base. Cross on a moulded plinth. Second step of base with chamfered top edges. First step of plinth with chamfered top edges). Second step of plinth with chamfered top edges. On it, on the front, an engraved inscription: Œ. † P. / EMILIA / COUNTESS / BROEL-PLATER / UR. 13 XI 1806 / + 23 XII 1831 //. A granite boulder from the original gravestone with the inscription has been set into the base of the monument: Speak eternal peace.
