Charles Georges de Goltz, born 8 June 1775 in Berlin, son of Leopold Heinrich von der Goltz (1745-1816) and Eleonore Juliane von Maltzahn, lieutenant general in the service of the King of Prussia, and ambassador of the Kingdom of Prussia to the French court in Paris. In 1807, he married Juliana (Julie) Wilhelmina von Seckendorff (1786-1857). From this couple came, among others, Charles Frédéric Henri de Goltz. The von der Goltz family had ties to Poland - their ancestors served in the Polish army, and Henning Bernhard von der Goltz (1681-1734) was a Polish officer. The family had been linked to the Prussian aristocracy for centuries, with many officers, generals and diplomats. In addition to their service in Prussia, family members also performed military and diplomatic service in Norway, Portugal, Russia and in the Habsburg armies, where they were given the title of duke. In addition, it had strong links with France, where the lilies in their coat of arms, combining elements of the Prawdzic coat of arms with the family coat of arms of the Counts of Dienheim, who arrived in Poland in the 13th century, originated.
