Between avenue des Aliants and chemin Erazzu (68th sector) in the Pére Lachaise cemetery is the gravestone monument of Seweryn Gałęzowski (1801-1878) - an internationally renowned surgeon from a poor Polish family in Volhynia, a November insurgent, émigré, independence and social activist, decorated with the Golden Cross of the Order of Virtuti Militari for his heroic help to wounded insurgents. Among Gałęzowski's many achievements, it is worth mentioning: his pedagogical activity as a professor at Vilnius University, his participation in the organisation of the University in Mexico, and his reorganisation and financial support of the Polish National School at Batignolles in Paris.

The stone gravestone monument consists of a monumental plinth decorated with four panels with ribbons, wreaths and garlands of plants, in a form reminiscent of mausoleum architecture, and a veristic bust of the deceased in antique type, made in bronze, crowning it. The tombstone with the bronze bust of the deceased was made in 1865 by Władysław Oleszczyński (1807-1866), an outstanding representative of Romanticism in Polish sculpture, the author of many monuments and tombstones of the Polish émigré circle in France. On the panels there are inscriptions informing about the remains deposited inside the monument: Seweryn Gałęzowski (1801-1878), Balbina Gałęzowska (1812-1884), née Szokalska Gałęzowska (1812-1884) and Amelia Gałęzowska (1837-1908), née Karpinska, née Józefów.
