Stanislaw Makowski, a Polish soldier, British Army officer and fighter for the French Resistance, is buried in the Pornic war cemetery. During the Second World War he was an agent for the French section of the Special Operations Executive. Born in Poland in 1914, he died in Romorantin in 1944, the day after being captured by the Germans. He rests in the war cemetery in Pornic.
