We are proud to present a publication on Tomasz Oskar Sosnowski (1810-1886), Polish sculptor in Rome, authored by Professor Lechosław Jan Lameński. The book was published by the Polonica Institute in the scientific series "Studies and Materials".

Who was Tomasz Oskar Sosnowski? He would probably say briefly about himself: a sculptor. Let us add that he was thoroughly educated, talented and hard-working, and sincerely devoted to art. The description of his character is only seemingly easy, as it still escapes chronology and simple classifications. There are more question marks than certainties in his life and work. Professor Lameński, on the other hand, thoroughly examines not only the sculptor's biography, but also his artistic inspirations. He analyses marble busts, religious and symbolic figures and their significance in the context of nineteenth-century European art.

The book is a passionate journey through the life of an artist who, despite his comfortable financial situation, devoted himself to art with extraordinary passion and independence, and whose work had a significant impact on the artistic milieu of Rome.
